ABOUT STACEY

Legislative Responsibilities Biography Activities

For Stacey, Georgia has always been a place of opportunity. Georgia is where her parents, the Reverends Robert and Carolyn Abrams, both received their Masters in Divinity from Emory University. That they did so with six children in tow and while working full-time jobs showed Stacey early that education and hard work would lead to achievement. That her parents did so while volunteering at soup kitchens and prisons and in homeless shelters, with their children working along side instilled in Stacey a respect for human dignity and a dedication to service.

Atlanta and Decatur and Dekalb County. These places are all HOME to Stacey, places that hold opportunity for everyone.

Decatur. Where Stacey graduated from Avondale High School as valedictorian.

Atlanta. Where Stacey received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Spelman College.

DeKalb County. Where Stacey has built a life of public service, community leadership and personal achievement.

:: Special Council on Tax Reform and Fairness
blank space

The Special Council on Tax Fairness for Georgians was established pursuant to OCGA 28-12-2 (HB1405) to "conduct a thorough study of the state's current revenue structure and make a report of its findings and recommendations for legislation to the Speaker of the House and the Lieutenant Governor no later than January 10, 2011.

The work of this Council will be used to draft legislation that will be subject to primarily technical amendments by a special Joint Committee of the House and Senate during the 2011 session.  Legislation produced by this Committee will receive a vote from both chambers.

I strongly encourage everyone to participate in the work of this Council.  It will shape tax policy for decades to come, and every citizen should be aware of their work.  To follow the Council or to learn more:  http://fiscalresearch.gsu.edu/taxcouncil/
