Legislative Responsibilities

Stacey is a House Minority Caucus Policy Chair for Ways and Means, where she is responsible for helping the House Democratic Caucus on issues and positions regarding taxation during the session.  She is also the Events Chair for the Caucus, guiding fundraising efforts.

Stacey also serves on four committees: Code Revision, Defense and Veterans Affairs, Judiciary - Non-Civil and Ways and Means.

In her first term, she was appointed by Speaker Glenn Richardson to serve on the House Study Committee to Incentivize Indigent Health Care by Physicians,  leveraging her experience in health care and tax law and her active engagement on issues of poverty and access. She also served on the House Study Committee on the Future of Manufacturing in Georgia, which took her around the state to understand this vital sector of our economy.

In 2007, Speaker Richardson and Chief Justice Leah Sears appointed Stacey to serve on the Supreme Court of Georgia Committee on Legal Education, building on her service as a mentor to young lawyers and her role as an adjunct professor for aspiring law students at Spelman College and Yale University.  In recognition of Stacey's committment improving the lives of Georgia's families through innovative and prudent laws, Chief Justice Sears added Stacey to the Supreme Court of Georgia Commission on Children, Marriage and Family Law.

Stacey is a member of the House Democratic Caucus, the Women's Legislative Caucus, the Working Families Caucus, the Rural Caucus and the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus.  She sits on the Atlanta-Fulton House Delegation and the DeKalb House Delegation, where she serves as Policy Chair and on the Executive Committee.

:: Special Council on Tax Reform and Fairness
blank space

The Special Council on Tax Fairness for Georgians was established pursuant to OCGA 28-12-2 (HB1405) to "conduct a thorough study of the state's current revenue structure and make a report of its findings and recommendations for legislation to the Speaker of the House and the Lieutenant Governor no later than January 10, 2011.

The work of this Council will be used to draft legislation that will be subject to primarily technical amendments by a special Joint Committee of the House and Senate during the 2011 session.  Legislation produced by this Committee will receive a vote from both chambers.

I strongly encourage everyone to participate in the work of this Council.  It will shape tax policy for decades to come, and every citizen should be aware of their work.  To follow the Council or to learn more:  http://fiscalresearch.gsu.edu/taxcouncil/
